WHAT IS BARCODE VERIFICATION?
Verification is the act of checking the accuracy of a printed barcode against a set of standards or specifications.
WHY USE A BARCODE VERIFIER?
A barcode verifier is a piece of diagnostic / quality control equipment used in the battle against defective barcodes. Defective bar codes cause expensive mistakes in any barcode data collection system. Verifiers are also necessary for maintaining records and documentation. Many companies require their vendors to use verification systems. For example, JC Penny's, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, and AIAG labels demand accountability through verification.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF NOT USING A BARCODE VERIFIER?
Without verification, barcodes entering the automatic data collection system run the following risks:
- strain on supplier / customer relationships and in some cases large monetary fines.
- Barcode does not scan, resulting in increased labor / costs for manual entry of data.
- Scanning defective or incorrectly valued barcodes will result in data errors.
WHAT VERIFICATION SYSTEM SHOULD I BUY?
There are two basic types of verification systems, "On-Line" and "Hand- Held". On-Line verifiers provide real-time, hands-free, unattended verification. On-Line verifiers are used to check every barcode label. Hand-Held verifiers are for spot checking barcodes to precise parameters. Accessories are available for both types which cover printers, special input devices and software packages.
