| There are many different label types available, here is a brief description of a few of them.
Direct Thermal (DT)
Direct Thermal Labels are typically used for shipping labels where the label does not have to last a great deal of time and is not exposed to sunlight or heat for long amounts of time. Many folks like this technology because they do not have to hassle with a ribbon, all they need to do is reload a roll of labels when they run out.
Thermal Transfer (TT)
Thermal Transfer Labels require the use of a ribbon and give a better image quality than direct thermal labels.
Paper Labels: Thermal Transfer Paper labels are good for product labels that are required to hold up over time or would be subjected to heat or fluorescent lights for an extended period of time. A Standard Wax or Wax/Resin ribbon is required for use with this type of label.
Synthetic Paper Labels: There are Synthetic Thermal Transfer Paper labels that are stronger than Thermal Transfer Paper but do not have the of a Polypro or a Polyester Label. These labels have a better moisture and chemical resistance than Paper labels. A Wax/Resin Ribbon is suggested for use with this type of label.
Polypro Labels: Polypro Labels are give a high degree of durability and withstand a variety of conditions including alcohol, blood, dirt, oil and water. Has a wider temperature range than thermal transfer paper. A Wax/Resin Ribbon is suggested for use with this type of label.
Poly Labels: Polyester Labels give the most durable material for the toughest applications and the highest temperature ranges. These are the labels that are put on circuit boards. A Resin Ribbon is required for use with this type of label.
